Lum Launches “Growing Forward Together” Priorities for Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK, B.C. — Mayoral candidate Jason Lum today launched Growing Forward Together, a practical set of priorities focused on affordability, safer neighbourhoods, responsible growth, infrastructure and keeping Chilliwack a great place to call home.

Lum said the priorities reflect 15 years of local government experience, conversations with residents here in Chilliwack, and a commitment to putting forward ideas that can be delivered.

“As the nomination period comes to an end, it’s clear how passionate people are about democracy in Chilliwack. I’ve spent years preparing for the opportunity to lead this community, and elections give residents a chance to hear new ideas, compare experience, and decide what kind of leadership they want. There will be plenty of political noise along the way. I’m going to stay focused on Chilliwack – building what’s working, addressing where we can do better, and delivering practical results we can achieve together.”

Lum said affordability is a major concern but warned that simply cutting infrastructure or borrowing to pay for today’s commitments only pushes costs into the future.

“I want taxes to be as affordable as possible too. But if you’re promising to cut taxes, while adding more police, more services and more infrastructure at the same time, show people the numbers. Residents deserve to know what gets cut, what gets delayed, or what gets borrowed.”

The Growing Forward Together priorities include safer neighbourhoods, supporting front line resources and first responders, pushing for better treatment and recovery options, ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with growth, and demanding accountability from senior governments when their policies aren’t working for Chilliwack.

Lum also emphasized that municipal government should remain focused on the community rather than political party labels.

“I have supporters who vote Conservative, NDP, Liberal, Green and everything in between. Many have told me they don’t want outside partisan politics turning City Hall into another political battleground. Neither do I. The Mayor should answer to the people of Chilliwack, not an out-of-town political organization.”

Lum said the priorities will include specific commitments so residents can judge not only what candidates are promising, but whether those promises can realistically be delivered.

“Some campaigns will spend their time telling people what to fear. I’d rather talk about what we can accomplish together. My platform is about practical ideas, responsible decisions and bringing people together to get Chilliwack’s next chapter right.”
