I'm still moving the campaign stuff to the archive category and trying to think up interesting things to blog about. Council life has been hectic to say the least! I'll reserve a dedicated post just to update on some of the stuff I'm involved with on that front.

The weather in Chilliwack is crazy. I'm watching softball sized hailstones beat up the new roof on my greenhouse. Having said that - I am getting optimistic that good weather is on it's way. I hope so - I've spent way too much money on stuff for the garden over the winter (thanks Salt Spring Island Seed Co.) Having it sit in the garage collecting dust is killing me.

I'm pledging to attempt a semi-regular update here, even if it's short. I have a busy week coming up - Funding announcement Monday, Council Meeting and Public Hearing Tuesday, LMLGA and Treaty Advisory Wednesday, Downtown Implementation Planning Thursday...

As always - feel free to email me anytime - lum@chilliwack.com I do check all my emails and respond - sometimes it takes a few days to catch up.

Thanks,

This process generated a lot of good ideas, and the Council elect would be foolish not to continue on some of the discussion that came as a result of the candidates debates and meetings. It is not an easy thing to put yourselves out in the public eye, you should be commended for your commitment to Chilliwack, and to democracy.

To the residents of Chilliwack, thank you for placing your trust and confidence in me as one of your City Councillors. It is a strong Council team, and I am looking forward to working hard to ensure we are always listening, learning, and engaging with the citizens of Chilliwack to help build a healthy community.

So, what's next? in terms of this website, I will be transitioning it over to a personal website for the next three years. I intend to keep it as an open forum for people to ask questions, post comments, etc. In terms of Council - Monday morning I was buried in emails about the next steps. Officially we will be sworn in on Tuesday, December 6th at 7pm at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. In between now and then I'll keep busy taking down signs, and re-aquainting myself with my family :)

It is the culmination of a lot of hard work, late nights, meetings, and countless cups of coffee. Many of you know me personally, some of you do not. Either way, I want to thank you for the kind words, messages, tweets, jokes, etc. sent my way.

Many of you have trusted me with your vote. I want you to know that I appreciate that trust. I also want you to k...now that I feel the great responsibility that comes with it. I want you to know that I take it very seriously. Your vote is a contract between you and I. The people that know me, and the people I have yet to meet in person - with your vote we are bound together in contractual obligation. Your vote means no matter how much our opinions differ, I will always listen to you respectfully and share my honest opinion. Your vote means no matter how busy I am in my work, I will always return your phone call, your email, your letter. Your vote means no matter how badly I make mistakes (and I will - politicians are not immune, contrary to what they will let you believe) I will own up to them, and face the consquences.

I would also like to point out that every person running for elected office has a group of friends, family, and volunteers helping them out. My campaign had an extraordinairy group. People who gave up evenings and weekends, early mornings and late nights. I am extremely thankful for their commitment, it made the campaign that much easier, and much more fun!

It is four minutes to midnight on November 18th. Tomorrow the polls open at 8 a.m. across the City and close at 8 p.m. I hope you will take the opportunity to vote!

Respectfully,
Jason Lum
